AS part of Network Rail’s Cardiff Area Signalling Renewal programme, Arriva Trains Wales is advising passengers that rail improvement work will be taking place between Cardiff Central and Newport stations from Thursday -Sunday, May 1-18, inclusive.

The work could affect journeys on or connecting to main line services on the Arriva Trains Wales network.

The re-signalling project will help to improve the reliability of rail services across South Wales in the future.

There will be a fairly comprehensive service during the work but departure and arrival times may be later or earlier than normal, some journeys may include additional station stops and journeys that are normally direct may involve changing trains. On Sunday, May 11, and Sunday, May 18, there will be no train services between Cardiff Central and Newport (this also includes First Great Western and Cross Country services) and rail replacement buses will run.

If travelling during this period, passengers are advised to check regularly for service updates and to allow extra time for their journey. Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail apologise for the inconvenience caused during this work.

Up-to-date information is available on the Arriva Trains Wales website: www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk and from National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50. Information about amended services and rail replacement bus services can also be found displayed at stations.

Dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be carried on replacement bus services.

Real-time running information on all ATW services, including details of any service disruption, is also available at www.journeycheck.co.uk/arrivatrainswales
